RABBAT PROJECT: ROOFTOP
Location: Downtown Cairo
Client: DEDI, CKU, Rockefeller Brothers Fund
Scope: Research and Design
The proposed pilot rooftop green space in downtown Cairo will be inaugurated as a public space hosting cultural and educational activities. The conceived renovation seeks to rectify structural problems, thus promoting the overall revitalization of this heritage building. The rooftop intervention crucially involves a pilot rooftop farm and solar panel installation, to be showcased to the Downtown community and wider public at large as sustainable and feasible solutions. As such, the rooftop program pilots and promotes sustainable food production methods and renewable energy, whilst providing spaces for educational workshops and urban farming. The rooftop installations aim to benefit local marginalized communities, piloting affordable solutions to the food security problem, whilst promoting sustainable income generating enterprises, and directly employing members of the vulnerable community of rooftop squatters.
