Goethe Institut and Robert Bosch Stiftung have commissioned CLUSTER to develop a concept design proposal and cost assessment for the rooftop of Alwanat al-Minya. The building sits in a middle-class neighborhood, vibrant with street life and in close proximity (150m) with the Nile front, which includes one of the most active and inclusive promenades in all Egyptian cities.

The proposed project comprises three main components: a) a small performance stage (70-100seats); b) a shaded workshop and event zone (50m2); c) a community garden and productive farm (80m2). In addition, the proposal includes supporting facilities, such as toilets, a changing room and a service counter. The design is envisioned to be constructed through an intensive design-built workshop (3-4 days) bringing together carpenters and craftsmen with students and young professionals in Minya, turning the project into a learning process of knowledge exchange and capacity building.
