CLUSTER’s ALFABRIKA launched its first design competition in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and the consequent changes and restrictions impacting our social practice and perception of public space. This was a call for creative design solutions to address health and safety concerns in the various modes of commuting, including those in informal areas: metro, bus, microbus and toktok. The design competition was open to students and young designers and targets commuters, drivers and staff in various modes of public transportation.

All received proposals demonstrate creative solutions and fabrication possibilities. The jury reviewed and deliberated their selection based on three criteria:

1. Originality and innovation of the concept towards safer commuting
2. Practicality, functionality and efficiency of designs
3. Producibility in terms of fabrication at ALFABRIKA
