The French Institute in Egypt (IFE) and its partners, UN-Habitat and CLUSTER, co-organized the conference “Making the Sustainable City – The Challenges of Urban Governance in an Expanding Megapolis,” which took place on 25, 26 and 27 November at the IFE in Cairo.

The exchanges and debates between Egyptian, French and international experts in attendance focused on the most salient issues related to current urban conditions in Egypt, and on feedback from French and Mediterranean experiences relevant to these questions. The symposium addressed the topics of national visions and system of cities in planning of the metropolis, new dynamics of suburban sprawl, as well as questions of densification and informality, exploring concrete examples and innovative solutions of urban regeneration models and inclusive public space.
