CREATIVITY IN ACTION: RESTORING SIGNAGE TRADITIONS
Location: Mansoura
Scope: Workshops
As part of the Creativity in Action project supported by Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies (DICE) to promote creative and social enterprises, CLUSTER’s ALFABRIKA carried out its second workshop “Restoring Signage Traditions” in Mansoura on Feb 4th- 6th 2021. In collaboration with Hajar Elbeltaji as a local partner and Cairopolitan as an implementation partner, and the participation of design students from Mansoura university, the workshop aimed at redesigning, producing and installing the signage of Andrea Café, a vintage coffee shop founded in 1907 that underwent a series of renovations and changes in its original façade. The design revives a dying technique of gilded glass signage, and engages a set of artists, designers, calligraphers and craftsmen in both Cairo and Mansoura. This event is a sequel to the Urban Shutters workshop in Ard al-Liwa, Dec 2020.
